The sorting and listing continues

Going through a collection is a lot of hard work.  I am sorting through box after box and binder after binder trying to decide what to keep and what to list on NAXCOM.  So far I have a little over 300 cards listed with a lot more to go.  Thousands to be exact.  I will more than likely re-shape my collection to include RC’s of course, vintage cards, and memorabilia cards just because I really do think they are quite cool.  The majority of everything else will be sold so I can purchase anything in that core 3.

Derek Anderson: Temporary QB of the future?

The Cleveland Browns.  Does anyone follow them anymore yet alone collect any of their star players?  I was born in raised in a small suburb on the west side of Cleveland, although I call the Detroit area my home now, the Cleveland Browns are a team that I painfully hold dear in my heart.

Last Sunday, a few days after Charlie Frye made his departure, Derek Anderson got the nod to attempt to lead the Browns to what was predicted to be yet another loss of the many to come this season.  Instead, he shocked the NFL going 20-33, 328 yards, and 5 TD’s!  Where has this guy been?  These are numbers you expect to see from the likes of Peyton Manning, not a backup QB from the Cleveland Browns.  Does this mean the future savior of the team Brady Quinn has to wait a few more weeks before he makes his debut?  Will a Cleveland QB actually have a chance to develop and mature before he is thrust into the spotlight?  What does this all mean for the franchise?

This brings me to a very tough choice.  Do I seek out a Derek Anderson RC simply based upon the performance in one game?  To make matters even worse he is wearing a dreaded Baltimore Ravens uniform.  I know every true Browns fan loves the Ravens just about as much as the Steelers.  Maybe I will just pick up a few to commemorate the best game of his career and hope history repeats itself next week against Oakland.

Opening Statements

I remember back in 1984 when I got my first pack of baseball cards the day after I got my tonsils removed.  I was a rack pack of 1984 fleer.  I can not remember what cards I got but I remember it began my love affair with sports cards ever since.  Flash forward 23 years later and the hobby has become ever so confusing compaired to the Topps, Fleer, and Donruss sets that existed back then.  Throughout the years I have come and gone from the hobby, stopping in 1992 because I was getting too old for baseball cards.  Starting up again in 1995 because I got a part-time job in a sports card shop my senior year in high school.  Starting again in 2001 because the internet and eBay! was a place to make good money.  Starting again in 2007 because my wife thinks its cute that I love cardboard pictures of baseball players.

So that brings me to today.  I have been spending the last few weeks going through my collection listing cards I no longer have a place for on a website called NAXCOM.  That in itelf has been a tedious process but will hopefully help me make a few dollars to purchase the cards I really would like to add.
